About the Author

Mike ContiMike Conti has been a proud member of the Massachusetts State Police since 1986. During his career he has worked in uniformed patrol, SWAT, undercover narcotics, and death investigations. He has been involved as a professional trainer since 1991 and holds numerous instructor certifications in various use of force disciplines.

In January 2000, Conti was assigned to the MSP Academy and tasked to organize, staff, and train the first fulltime Firearms Training Unit (FTU) for the department. During the creation of the FTU he developed the reality-based New Paradigm police firearms training program, which has since been adopted by departments both nationally and internationally. In 2001 Conti was awarded the Massachusetts State Police Medal of Merit for his work on this project.

After September 11, 2001, Conti was assigned to Logan International Airport in Boston to assist in the formation and training of the first-in-the-nation, commercial airport Anti-Terrorist Unit (ATU). This project entailed the development of a comprehensive, highly-specialized training matrix, which included the adoption and deployment of submachine guns for regular patrol use in the airport, another first in the U.S. In 2003 Conti was awarded the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Citation for Outstanding Performance in recognition of his work in the development and administration of specialized training programs for both the FTU and the ATU.

In addition to The Officer's Guide to Police Pistolcraft, Conti has written three other books: In the Line of Fire: A Working Cop’s Guide to Pistolcraft (1997), Beyond Pepper Spray: The Complete Guide to Chemical Agents, Delivery Systems, and Protective Masks (2002) (both published by Paladin Press), and the 2006 Saber Press release, Police Pistolcraft: The Reality-Based New Paradigm of Police Firearms Training and had more than 100 articles published in various local and national publications. Conti has also served as the law enforcement contributing editor for Guns & Ammo magazine and as a consultant for the Law Enforcement Training Network (LETN), Calibre Press, and the History Channel.
